About the Handymag

We have been publishing the Handy Mags since 2005. Our aim has always been to bring businesses and community information together in one place for the benefit of the local area. Compact, glossy and local, the Handy Mags are read, enjoyed and kept until the next edition arrives through the letterbox.

The Handy Mags are free A5 community magazines containing advertising for businesses, community groups and local events. They are delivered to all homes and businesses in two separate distribution areas by Royal Mail.

Take a look through our website to find local services and businesses, what's on in both Ryedale and York areas, and all of the articles and useful information found inside our magazines.

Meet the Team

Marianne Long

Director and Editor

Back in 2005, the first Handy Mag appeared – and our colourful, bright publications have come a long way since then! Having done everything from sales through to design, and from finance to back-office admin, I have seen the hard work that goes into running a small business. So I find chatting with our customers is one of the best parts of my rewarding role. We are very lucky to have such a wide selection of local businesses, community groups and charities in our area, many of which we have helped through Handy Mag publicity and advertising. The experience I have gained over the years in advertising, design and copyrighting is passed on to each and every one of our customers. We hope to hear from you so we can help you promote your business or group in the next edition of the Handy Mag!

Nicky Whalen

Local Information and Admin

For the past 5 years it has been my job to keep up to date and help promote all of the many local events and community groups in our distribution areas. The ‘what’s on’ sections in the magazines are a great way to let people know what is going on and what you are involved in – especially if you belong to a charity or a local community group as we include your details for free!
Whether you’re involved in a big charity fundraiser, an open day for a sports club, a local group meeting or an informal coffee morning – whatever the event, if it’s happening in your local area then I’d love to hear all about it!
